The Tactics of the Enemy Defined It is naive to think the enemy has no interest in tearing down your walk with God.  God's word tells us we are in a spiritual battle; it is described as a war.  We are under God's protection, but the enemy will attack if we let our guard down.  The New Testament gives us tremendous insight into his tactics.  Once we know his strategies, we can keep guard!

 

The Bible teaches that the forces of darkness are a very real enemy of the things of God.  The following list is gleaned from God's Word.  It gives us insight into his tactics.

 

The devil tempts people.  He tempted Jesus for forty days straight. Luke 4:2

 

The devil transported Jesus, and gave Him visual images.  Luke 4:5

 

The devil twisted the context of scripture. Luke 4:10

 

He attempts to derail progress in hearing the Word, by snatching the seed.  Luke 8:12

 

He can take a foothold in a church or in an individual life.  It forms a position in order to deepen an attack.  Ephesians 4:27

 

He is able to set a trap positioning people against their leadership. 2 Timothy 4:26

 

He is able to take believers captive to do his will in church conflict and opposition to spiritual authority.  2 Timothy 2:26

 

He will advance, until resisted, then he will be forced to flee.  James 4:7

 

He is described as a predator, looking for an opportunity. 1 Peter 5:8

 

He devises schemes against us.  1 Peter 5:8

 

Our battle is not against people, but dark forces working behind them.  Ephesians 6:12

 

We are given all necessary spiritual protection, if we choose to use it.  Ephesians 6:11

 

The evil one shoots missiles of fire, which can be effectively blocked by faith.  Ephesians 6:16

 

The devil sets specific traps, including the destruction of our public testimony.  1 Tim. 3:7

 

Jesus destroys the devil's works.  1 John 3:8

 

Witchcraft is a work of the flesh, listed with others.  Galatians 5:19-21

 

Satan is an accuser.  Rev. 12;10

 

Lucifer means lightbearer, a seductive emissary of LIGHT.  Isaiah 14;12

 

The devil is a slanderer.  1 Peter 5:8

 

Jesus called him a murderer and a liar.  John 8:44

 

He is the prince, or authority, of this world system opposed to God.  John 12:31

 

He is at work in the life of all unbelievers.  Ephesians 2:2

 

He is called the destroyer.  Rev. 9:11

 

He is called the tempter.  Matt. 4:3

 

He blinds the eyes of unbelievers.  Access to the mind is an objective.  2 Cor. 4:4

 

He rules over his dominion.  Rev. 2:13

 

He dresses as a messenger of light.  2 Cor. 11:14,15

 

The Lord limits his access to people.  Job 1:10-12

 

He comes to steal, kill, and destroy.  John 10:11

 

Some level of sickness is attributed to him.  Acts 10:38

 

He can put a wicked thought in a mind.  John 13:2

 

 

He can enter and control human beings.  John 13:27

 

He can attempt to stop the advances of God's saints.  1 Thess. 2:18

 

he can cause circumstances to be adverse.  Rev. 2:10

 

And now the God news!

 

We are legally set free from the kingdom of darkness and are transferred to the kingdom of Jesus!  Colossians 1:13

 

We are given protection in all realms of our lives, as we use it.  Ephesians 6:10-18

 

Demons cannot separate us from the love of God in Christ.  Romans 8:38

 

We are seated with Christ in heavenly realms.  Ephesians 2;4-6

 

The Lord made a public spectacle of dark spirits by His victory at the cross.  Colossians 2:16

 

The wicked one cannot touch us.  1 John 5:18
